Homeopathic First Aid Kits
Many people are familiar with using homeopathic remedies for minor injuries or ailments. There are a few remedies which are especially helpful if used for an early symptom or straight after an injury. These kits and booklet provide you with the ability to treat common ailments and accidents at home, and they are easy to use even if you have little or no prior knowledge of homeopathy.

You can use homeopathic remedies at home to treat first aid problems such as cuts, minor burns and bruises and common childhood illnesses.
Some well-known first aid remedies can be used as indicated below, but if symptoms persist, do consult a professional homeopath.
The list below is a partial sampling of the information found in the Homeopathic First Aid Manual.
ALLERGIC REACTIONS
- Apis; Arnica; Carbo-veg: Some first choices for severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock), with sudden onset, swelling of skin and mucus membranes and trembling.
BLACK EYE
- Arnica: take a pill of 30c immediately and there will be no local bruising.
- Ledum: when there is a mottled appearance, or puffiness and the eye feels cold.
- Symphytum: use when the eye ball is injured by something like a tennis ball, or when a toddler sticks his fist into it.
BROKEN BONES/BRUISES
- Arnica: use immediately to prevent shock and the sore bruised feeling that occurs after an accident. There are bruised or crushing pains.
CAR SICKNESS
- Coccolus: feels worse moving or looking at a moving object. There may be headache, dizziness, sweating, saliva and exhaustion. The patient feels better laying down.
- Ipecac: a constant desire to vomit, but not better after vomiting, needs fresh air.
- Nux-vomica: a great sensitivity to the slightest movement or noise, constant nausea, splitting headache, buzzing in ears and very chilly.
CHICKEN POX
- Aconite: feverish and fearful.
- Belladonna: high fever with severe throbbing headache, flushed face and hot, dry skin but with cold hands and feet. Drowsy but cannot sleep. May have waking nightmares, often involving attacking animals.
- Pulsatilla: the child is weepy and cannot bear to be alone, and is often thirstless, may have a cough.
- Rhus-tox: after the fever stage this is usually the main remedy. They are very itchy and restless with aching restless legs. The spots look like a colourless jelly on a red plate.
COLDS
- Aconite: early stages.
- Arsenicum: thin, watery, burning discharge.
- Gelsemium: with flu-like aching.
- Natrum mur: with sneezing and dripping nose.
- Pulsatilla: thick, bland, profuse discharge.
- Silica: slow to go.
COLD SORES
- Rhus-tox, sepia, Natrum-mur: on lips.
- Natrum-mur: on lips and mouth, caused by sun.
CROUP
- Aconite: hoarse, dry cough, tight hacking, which comes on suddenly and terrifyingly. Loud, laboured breathing. Usually begins before midnight. Child is sure he will die.
- Hepar-sulph: loose rattling cough, worse in the morning and whenever any part of the body is uncovered or when eating cold food.
- Spongia: dry, barking cough, may sound like a saw through plywood, worse before midnight.
- Try Aconite first, if no change in 15 minutes, use Spongia. If it returns in the night use Hepar-sulph.
DENTAL TREATMENT
- Arnica: for pain after an extraction or filling. It is best taken immediately after the extraction and repeated every two or three hours for the day.
- Chamomilla: is often the best remedy for children. There is usually irritability and can be used if Arnica does not work.
- Hypericum: helps after drilling with nerve pain.
FLU
- Belladonna: burning with sudden high fever, a dry hot body and icy cold feet, glassy eyes. Usually no thirst.
- Bryonia: the symptoms come on slowly. There is a dry, burning heat and the patient is thirsty for large amounts of cold water. The least movement makes them worse and they want to be left alone.
- Eupatorium a real aching in the bones and a great thirst. Sweating makes all the symptoms better except for headaches.
- Gelsemium: the number one remedy when the patient is tired, dull and trembling. Their mouth and lips are very dry, but there is often no thirst.
- Phosphorus: craves ice or cold drinks, even when cold
SHOCK AND GRIEF
- Arnica: give as soon as possible, bruised, staring with stupor.
- Aconite: give if there has been an accident and the person is agitated or fearful. There may be a fear of dying.
- Carbo-veg: with a state of collapse.
- China: from loss of body fluids.
- Ignatia: emotional distress, bereavement, hysteria, hyperventilation, sighing and private tears.
- Pulsatilla: weepy, inconsolable
- Silica: starts with fright when touched.
- Bach flower rescue remedy is also useful after any trauma.
STINGS
- Apis: for severe reactions to any stings which are red, swollen and, hot, with burning pains. This can also be used for severe allergic reactions to drugs or injections.
- Arnica tincture: especially good for bee and wasp stings and horse fly bites when applied immediately.
- Cantharis: for a severe reaction which feels scalded, swollen and red.
- Ledum: when the area is painful to touch and feels better if something cool is pressed on it, even though it feels cold.
- Ledum tincture: especially good for midges and mosquitoes when applied immediately.
- Lemon juice or vinegar helps ease the pain of a wasp sting and a solution of bicarbonate of soda or soap will help relieve bee stings.
SUNBURN
- Belladonna or Cantharis remedies: Cantharis or Urtica ointment will soothe, or Urtica tincture drops in some cooled boiled water.
